What can I eat before morning exercise?

Exercise refers to any kind of activity that stimulates our muscular system. This can be walking, running, lifting weights, climbing, etc. Depending on each type of exercise the energy requirements of our body change. Therefore, a different breakfast will be needed by an athlete running than someone doing muscle strengthening training.

In the former case, we need to avoid dairy products, which are indigestible foods, and opt for honey, peanut butter, and some bread. In the latter case, dairy does not affect us so it can be an option in our breakfast in combination with a turkey toast and yellow cheese. A common mistake that many athletes, especially beginners, make is not eating breakfast before their morning workout, mistakenly thinking that without breakfast their body will burn fat from their fat reserves.

However, by placing our body in such a situation we put too much stress on it without giving it energy and all we achieve is burning out our muscular system. To understand this better, we will compare our body to a car. If we don’t put fuel in the car, it is only certain that it won’t move. Thus, without fuel, which in our case is breakfast, our body will not be able to perform properly. It will use up its energy reserves initially and then exhaustion and sickness will come immediately afterwards.

What we must do is eat something light and energy rich. But be careful, we must allow an interval of at least 2 hours after breakfast before our sporting activity so as not to overload our heart with two different functions: that of digestion and that of exercise.

Some breakfast options are the following:

  1. A slice of bread or toast with honey or peanut butter
  2. Energy bars, protein bars or
  3. cereal bars
  4. Turkey toast with cheese and a glass of milk
  5. Smoothie with the following ingredients:

2 fruits of your choice, nuts, milk or oats, a spoonful of tahini, a banana, and a cup of milk.

But do not forget. The most important and right thing to do is to consult a nutritionist to curate a diet based on your own data.
